It is a very difficult film to understand .. my explanation is that

The first time frank calls him, his dream begins. INstead of getting out of bed he stays in bed then the dream ends at the end were the plain goes through his room.

I was watching it last night too, probably the same time as you. All I get out of it is that he was being haunted by a 6 foot rabbit.

haha I never actually even thought about it being a dream. The movie is beyond my comprehension.

Vanilla Sky is also pretty complicated...its hard to tell what's a dream and what isnt.

I never got the problem with that, most people got conufsed but none of it seemed to be confusing for me.

I heard the directors cut of the film explains a lot more and makes it real easy to follow, well easier.

Well whats your take on it?

I believe he's in a coma from the accident up until the very end where the last words are cameron diaz saying "wake up david".

I thought after the accident he had his face disfigured, blah blah blah, then went into liquid dream, and then at the end woke up from the liquid dream.

lol...yeah...thats the plot....but like Donnie Darko...there is more to the movie than just the way it plays out. It's one of those movies where nothing is as it seems...like the 6th Sense and Fight Club..

If ya go on the IMDB you can see loads of people who debate the many different scenerios of what might have happened.

But I can't remmber it was ages since I saw it.

Personally, I don't think there is one finite solution to Donnie Darko, I think it was intended to confuse, and make you think and come to your own individual conclusion as to what it was about.
