MSN/Internet Problem, Default Gateway??

Well my internet has been fucked for the past few days but its working now, just waiting to go back onto my old internet package, as this one has a bandwidth limit.. but they didnt tell me.

But im sure thats not the problem, the internets completly fine, but I cant get on MSN, I ran the troubleshoot and it tested my connection and came up with this:

I cant find anything to do with "default gateway" anywhere, Ive been to control panel> phone and modem options> then into my modems properties; but cant find anything about default gateway there.
Anyone know what the problem is? Is something not activated, or something?

this happened to me, if you have a rooter turn it off and then on again it worked for me,if not I dunno what to do

I have the exact same problem but with the error being on 'Key Ports'.

Got it working now, just ran some code thing microsofts troubleshooter told me to run.. even though it didnt find any problems, it seemed to work so.
This thread can be closed now.

Off topic, but does sending files with MSN suck for anyone else, or is it just me?

sucks for me, sometimes it will work fairly fast, others it will transfer and like 5kb a second on broadband. Its shit.

Yeah, that sucks. I can send a song to some people in like a few seconds but then to some it takes like 10 minutes... They release new versions all the time, and still they can't make an update with a decent file transferring system..

its not msn's fault about the transfer speed its your own or the person your reciving it from...with broadband you might have highspeed download but not so highspeed upload

Start > run

Type "cmd"

Type ipconfig /renew

Thus presuming you have a dynamic IP set, if you have a statick IP I would tell you to type another command but I don't want you to make the mistake of losing your IP settings.

Would that sort the problem?
And what would happen if I had a static IP...and can you tell before I do it?

That basically refreshes your IP configuration, and gateway settings. This *should* sort the problem.

If you had a static IP, then simply go to Start > Run

Type CMD
Type ipconfig /all

Take a screenshot of your LAN settings in case you lose them.

Then type ipconfig /release
Then ipconfig /renew

If renew doesn't work, go to start > settings > network and dialup connections > click on your primary LAN connection, go to properties, scroll down to "Internet protocol (TCP, IP)" and click properties once selected then re-enter your IP settings and hit ok.

No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected.
An error occured while renewing interface Local Area Connection 2 : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
