Microsoft may have to pay daily EU fine

Microsoft are being forced by the EU (European Union) to release parts of its operating system source code to prevent their vast monopoly in the EU. They've been ordered to release parts of their API documentation which has been private up until now. If they don't comply by the given date Microsoft will have to pay over $2million per day, and if they refuse to pay their products will be taken off all shelves in the UK.

That's where you're wrong.

It's great for us Europeans, the EU is trying to help us citizens. It would be an impossibility for Microsoft not to comply, as they won't remain software leader for very long once their products are off the shelves, additionally if they release their documentation other companies can make variations of Microsoft products which means Microsoft are forced to lower prices in the EU as when there is a monopoly, competition is impossible. If there are companies competing against each other, each will strive to offer the best for the least.

Don't get me wrong, I love Microsofts marketing strategy and I love their products. However, their products are too expensive when licensing multiple computers. This will won't cut OS costs as the source is still strictly Microsofts, it'll just make it easier for companies to develop software such as a variant of office for example, thus making a lot of software that runs on the win32 platform cheaper. Good for the end user, hard position for MS though.

actually windows is the only software I do buy, becuase I dont want some cracked version to be fucked up and have to rely on other hackers to get patches for the cracks once new service packs come out and stuff

what MS software do you buy?

A lot of people pay for their software, my version of Windows is legal. However, MS will always be the main base system for an OS. Microsofts quality of code is excellent, however they've made a platform with the intention of making it easy to use for the end user hence compromising on security of their products. Fair compromise and it works. Due to legislation, this won't allow google to execute MS applications under their OS, if they make one. Google OS won't necessarily be a success and I'd choose Windows over a Google OS anyday.

Dont computers over there come with Windows XP? Every computer Ive ever bought came with Windows for free.

The licensing cost is added to the price, you can call it free if you wish.

Good products listed. In all honesty, Windows is the best for your average user. Google OS can go to hell, the only reason they'd create a free OS would be to mine data in their usual manner. Google isn't as innocent as it's hyped to be. Google = great search engine. They should focus on their niche and hopefully that's what they will continue to do as their existing product line needs improvisation.

Haha, it's not all bad. I believe you can get precompiled OSx binaries, and most Linux source code executes under OSx as it's built on the *BSD kernel.

So all in all, it does make a decent server but there are a few issues.
