Im thinking of starting a website where people can sign up and say what instrument they play, area they live in etc.. and Bands/Other members can contact them and discuss making a band or recruting them or just play for a one of gig. Also a section where bands can say when they have a gig and ask for support bands etc..
Really would like good response on this idea..

Yeah I no, How would I get the world out though? thats proberly my main concern
Would like to no also if in the long run it could make an money? Not really a big deal at this point in time but meh money is money

Good idea, but it wont pick up, cos only ugly shit dorks will join cos all good and good looking musicians are in bands!

Magasines, advertising, your gonna have to pump money into it at the start but hopefully if it can get self sufficient it should just keep growing, Don't grow out too fast though cause it can fuck you, some mail order companies had to close cause they couldnt keep up with demands. Advertise in free magasines like 24-7 in devon, ask for an announcement at small gigs or run a gig night... like www.ursitename.com's open mic night, and get in contact with people through that?

seriously, the only way to get anything recognized is by word of mouth, if it really does serve some huge purpose, then it'll get known. might not be a huge success at the start, but time says everything.
kinda like that million dollar webpage, it was some bullshit idea, and he just fucked about with his friends and family and it got out by word of mouth, which some advertising companies got wind of and exploited it about like aids.

In theory the concept is great, there's always local bands looking for bassists (failed guitarists) and drummers (people who can't sing).
I'm guessing it'll take a lotta coding but good luck.

Thanks all I think I will go for it. No harm in trying.. unless of course while im trying my pc screen explodes and im blinded for life...
Forgot to say..Also I no ill have to put money into it.. but in the long run, how would I get money put of it.

selling ad space or make people pay to sign up or get in touch with people(not the best idea though)

That open mic night idea I had, using some of the better people from the site, hold a ig night and charge some cash for entry, will spread the word too... maybe asking for a bit of a cut or a donation from bands that have made money from getting together on your site, nothing compulsary but u no if they wanted to hint hint

Problem with making people pay to sign up is.. no one will do it
esp at first.. and even if it did take off and then tried putting the sign up fee in all the old members wouldnt pay...
