and what I mean by fail is that I just cant see anything competing with facebook.

You don't even have to compete with them. Twitter's probably a billion dollar business by now and they just jumped on the facebook bandwagon. And Twitter and billion dollar companies aside, I don't even think you need to be that creative to make a fairly succesful social media these day. Good luck Matt. Funk has a point too. If you know basics to creating games, just make a game for the Apple's app store or make games for facebook and you'll be rich.

You would have more than just one site tho right? like your making a network with multiple sites that cater to different topics?

I'd be totally willing to update the movie, hip hop, television sites.

I have a lot of ideas on how you could program the sites to update quicker than most blogs with up to the date info, making your site to go to site.

Plus you could have certain artists and celebs twitter feed available on your site.

that way you can take twitter's traffic by offering what twitters offers and other articles, would bring a lot of casual twitter readers to you (ones that don't have an account).
