as you know a young director came here askin for our footage for a project he wanted to make...well after alot of Q&A he said he would send out some dvds to be reviewed. at this point i asked if i could see his "Shooting Range" DVD
its an interview video about the highs and lows of wrestling and the fall of ECW & WCW by The Sandman, Vamoiro, Konnan, Chris Hamwrick, New Jack & Vic Grimes
as the line up is pretty good if you have followed most of these guys in ECW & WCW, the dvd was packed with info and is a good dvd if you like to know backstage storys, the ins and outs of wrestling for different feds, and i would say was very good watch, now this is where it gets bad.
the editing & filming
this dvd was filmed in hotel rooms, carparks & backstage, now this dvd was edited cuttin back and foward to the different talents on different subjects, now here is konnan standing in a carpark at night (after a show maybe) someone always asks him somthing for him to coment and show his view on, but who ever is asking him the Q's is standing behind the camera and you cant make out what hes sayin unless you turn your volume right up (sometimes you still cant make out due to the noise outside is near a road or somthing) then konnan speaks and you have to hit your volume down quickly as he is speakin into the camera and it picks up his voice very clearly, then after he speaks it will cut to new jack backstage who is in his locker room which has an huge eco & as new jack is very loud and shouts when he talks you have to turn your volume down because it hurts your ears its that bad, then it will cut to sandman who is so fucked up in real life hes stoned/drunk 24/7 so he sort of mummbles and stutters so you turn the volume back up and its back to new jack screamin and shoutin again. i had too battle this dvd with my controll all the way from start to finish, so basicly moody im not just dissin your work but telling you if you ever plan to make a dvd like this again..please make sure each person talkin is at the same sound level & maybe when asing the Q have subtitles at the bottom to help people understand what the star is talkin about, also the 2nd time vic grimes says somthing the camera spins around and then waits for him to finish what he was sayin...could moving the camera around not be cut out at all? the dvd ends with very small credits with a little bit of music playing. and gos back to the menu...which is very plan i might add.
i would rate this 5 out of 10, 5 for the content and -5 for the lack of watchable editing....iv seen this dvd 2times and i dont think i will be watching again as i want to sit back and relax if im to watch somthing not be gard all the time just incase new jack comes back again...which he does all the time.
also moody sent me a extra dvd to review. which i was happy about when i read the back of it...lost classic matches for superstars back in the day when they was no bodys basicly called "Masters of the ring"
it has a small edited intro with high lights and other random footage of matches that are not on this dvd, it has 8 matches, all are pretty good, but are all filmed by someone in the crowed with old video cameras, some spots are missed, some are not, some hold the camera's steady. some dont. watching this dvd was good to see what they was like back in the day and some matches are really good, but due to no view changes or different camera angles its kind of boring, so that also means you dont get any comentry by anyone...i would of guessed moody would have played some of the music hes got in the background so it was more intresting to watch but no that didnt happend, also alot of matches could of been cut at the end but played while wrestlers was standing around the ring or walkin to the back, this was not needed the match was over...people want to move on..no need for unless footage playing for ages after the match is over...a perfect eg of this is the 1st match on the video. after the video is finished it said "Directed by Michael Moody" now im wondering what did he direct? this video is made up of fan filmed videos sent too michael to make this DVD. so basicly the directing of this video is what order the matching play in? thats all i can see he had control over as none of the footage had anything to do with him unless he went too all these shows and filmed them all but that wouldnt count as directing i dont think. anyways again i will rate this dvd and will give it a 7 out of 10 due to the matches are so rare and was a good watch. i desided to put on a cd and listen to it as the matches play in the background.
i reviewed these dvds as truthfuly as i could...i did point out all the good points and all the bad points and hope michael moody will take what problems and dislikes i say as helping him out with future dvds,
i know iv been sent these dvds to show case what Niolan do as making dvds, and for me to review, but really the main concern with us (homegrowns) sending in the footage is to see how you guys edit and what your music is like you use...and from these too the only footage we saw edited is cut up lots of interviews and edit the credits with music.
moody if you have the time and want me to review your Backyard Criminals DVD i will watch that as im geussin its move after move edited to music? which is what us basic homegrowns is looking too see how you guys do that, then please send me that and i will review that and im sure more work went into that dvd alot more then the 2 i was sent.
