laptop network

ok I have a laptop and I use to use wireless for the internet, but now I'm setting it up through the network, but when I plug the cable in, the internet doesn't work at all, and I don't wanna bullshit around longer than I should, so does anyone have experience with this crap? what settings should I change? I'm not very good with networking type shit.

are you doing an alternate method of connecting, via the cable, you may need to change the settings in the network configuration to fit your router, if it does not provide dhcp, which most do though.

You might simply have to turn your wireless connection off while you have it connected to the Ethernet port.
