I would say the only cams out there that require any knowledge would be an hd cam or something involving xlr audio.

Even much cheaper cameras than this are going to have audio level controls, white and black level adjustment, f-stop adjustment, digital gain adjustment, and hopefully a manual focus ring. If you're lucky, and I haven't looked at this particular camera, it will have a built-in neutral density filter as well, or multiple neutral density filters.
That's a lot to set up to make your shot look nice.
Sure, you can use the AGC, and the automatic focus, and the automatic iris control, but if you're going to do all that, why are you spending the money? Just get a Panasonic 3CCD PV-GS400 instead at that point; it's much cheaper, it's got automatic everything with manual adjustment if desired, a fly-by-wire focus ring, and it's very compact.
