Can't find the right codec

I've downloaded soo many codecs but yet most of my videos won't play. Is there any universal codecs that I should try downloading? I need it for windows media player. Most of the videos come out all green and with just audio.

I had a similar problem, Just search google for "Xvid" and "Divx" codecs, just get all the newest and up to date ones, you should be able to get a package full of them, I think it's what you need,
