Of course it formats your drive, .bat is the MS-DOS executable, those commands are MS-DOS based. It won't work as effectively on XP, but it most probably will reformat and lose all your system files and config

I'm not sure, most likely should prompt you, as XP is a GUI with MS-DOS built into it rather then the predecessor systems which are MS-DOS based operating systems with a GUI slapped over them.
Hence why most MS-DOS viruses are obsolete, but commands for MS-DOS can be exectuted without being prompted on XP, I'm not entirely sure if it will work without a prompt as I've never executed DOS files on XP, I just use DOS standalone to login to my router and traceroute.
I'll test it later on one of my redundant PC's
