Hong kong home users to aquire 1 gig connections

HKBN Premium bb1000 service is being offered on the same metro Ethernet infrastructure that delivers the company's Mass Market bb100 (symmetric 100 Mbps for US$34/month) and Entry Point bb10 (symmetric 10 Mbps for US$16/month) services.

yeah, I heard about this. also if FAST TCP comes into play in the near future that speed will be x12. but I doubt they will release FAST TCP to the general public. I no some ISPs are using it for there backbones. But if general public get FAST TCP then a 56k modem will reach speeds of a bit over 512kbps. alot of ISPs will lose money couse of this.

I doubt it will make a drastic amount of difference though, as you can only download as fast as the computer you are downloading from is.

And it seems to be a more internal thing, so it will be fast within HK, but I doubt they have the pipelines leaving the country to support all that bandwidth. Sounds like their under sea pipes are going to be pretty jammed up

yeah, I no alot of people in Japan and stuff have optical cables running into there house.

also there webcam capabilty is amazing, there webcams are dvd quility, thats amazing.

thing the UK would be ahead of them. this is because BT had broadband technology before anyone. but 1 guy said it would never take off. then another company came out with it. that guy got fired and has never worked in the computer industry since. Well basically, they developed "internet 2", and like 400 universitys from around America could use this. basically it gave all the students in the University speeds of 350MBPS, for free, but they could only use it to conect to certain servers to share information and resources. But someone put aloud of movies and shit on one server, and students started downloading them. now an average movie is like 700MB, they had 350MBPS so as you can see they were downloaded in no time. Basically some big hollywood movie companies found out about them downloading these movies in under 10 seconds, and sued ever student that downloaded the illegal copies. as the downloads were confined to the universitys only they could track them easily.

not that lucky, they all got in trouble for the downloads. and in the future 10 seconds for a movie will b a long time. like I said before if FAST TCP comes into play then movies will be able to be downloaded in under 5 seconds. I think they managed to pump 1gigabit down a 3MB line. but I doubt we will get it for home use for along time.

oh and I doubt we will ever see "internet 2".
