We found a wicked jump today from atop a local bridge..
The Specs:
Spot: Concrete Bridge
Jumping Area: Approximately 50 ft or more to the ground
Conditions: Jumping area is adjacent to a tree that runs the height of the bridge, diameter of trunk is around 1 ft or less. The landing is a steep incline covered in rough brush and prickly bushes. There is also a large concrete pad directly under the bridge, if the tree broke it would be a 50 ft plunge to concrete.
The Plan: To jump out from the bridge and attempt to grab the tree for a portion of the lofty descent, then let go approximately 35 - 40 feet from the ground and hopefully land in a roll.
The Backup Plan: If the tree breaks we'll have several crew members in place to hopefully catch him (hopefully.)
So the big question is, in your oppinion: Should he do it?
While awaiting forum response, I'll take some photographs of the area and post them sometime tomorrow, we'll be getting several different angles with our cameras if this goes down, so I'll try to get shots from around where I think the cameras will be placed.

Edit- Before doing this I suggest you take a look at what life would be like in a wheel chair. It would have to suck.

I'm still thinking about it....it's raining today though...
01 July 2004, 20:22 UTC#7
Yeah..he's my little bro, so I'm def gonna check it out well before I let him do it....it's raining today though...so I'm not even gonna consider asking him to try to jump and grab hold of a wet slick branch...
01 July 2004, 20:31 UTC#8
Why dont you do it?
If he grabs the branch he wont want to let go...
01 July 2004, 21:28 UTC#9
Yeah, he should do it. As long as he makes sure he does everything right.
01 July 2004, 22:17 UTC#10
Fuck it, No more Mr nice guy, go for it man. But make sure you call the fire brigade before.

Look at the Safety thread in the homegrown forum on ckyforums.com, it might have some tips in there if you sift through it.

Pretty much all he will have to do is this:
Make sure you can make it
Hold on as tight as you can to a branch
Make sure there are no sharp/jagged rocks at the bottom
That is basically it...
02 July 2004, 02:44 UTC#13
Yeah make sure you dont hesitate cause then you will probably die.

You can see a patch of rock there in the last pic, that's pretty much what all of the landing is like, there's a bit of brush covering over the rest though, as you can tell from the pic
02 July 2004, 03:09 UTC#17
Yeah, I think he could do it. Maybe he should climb near top of the tree and make sure it wouldn't break if he jumped into it.
02 July 2004, 03:16 UTC#18
No matter what its going to hurt...

23 July 2004, 22:53 UTC#24
woah this is old. Did he ever try it or did he decide not to?
24 July 2004, 11:55 UTC#25
A friend had the idea where you hold on to a branch with your hands, and then kick all of the other branches away beneth you.
You can't chicken out though, and, its just a matter of time before you have to let go.
That ideas better for smaller trees. But you should be able to chicken out on this one,as it a hell of a lot more dangerous.

QUOTE woah this is old. Did he ever try it or did he decide not to?
We haven't gotten a chance to film it yet, we need a car to get there....as it's pretty far away. I should be able to drive there sometime in the next 2 weeks....
25 July 2004, 23:07 UTC#27
Go for it. But in the first pic I saw, i had to look twice to see the guy. Oh well, it'll be good on camera. I'm not the one doing it.
25 July 2004, 23:24 UTC#28
