LMAO, what are you planning to run on it?
I tried suse 9.1 professional, it was an awesome operating system, but had loads of dependency problems on various software packages and RPM's, also too graphically bulky.
I don't like linux as desktop ware, for servers its awesome
06 April 2005, 01:11 UTC#15
well a mate wants it, but I plann to mess around with it as well,
and I have suse 9.2 pro on my other comp, but its full of floors, novel fucked it up. 9.1 is the best desktop OS they done in the suse range.
06 April 2005, 01:15 UTC#16

And, say you wanted to run servers, you may want to look into purchasing a cPanel license, its 420 dollars per year, or you can take the 1200 dollar lifetime license, but 420 per year is well worth the investment as all packages are installed auttomatically, including apache, php, mysql, a simple command pasted in your SSH window and an hour later everythings installed, all you need to do is configure DNS servers and the initial hardening of the server.
If you want it for serverware, check the version compatibilities on the cpanel website, no need to compile anything also, and it upgrades your kernel during the update

well the servers are already running and in good condition, apart from the oracle database. it cost like £30,000, and u didnt get a manual or anything with it. and to make it worse when it ask you to enter your server domain name it wont except the "-" symbol. this is shit because its in the domain name, and my teacher doesnt wanna have to redo the domain. but tbh I cant see him adding SLES9 as he is lazy, currently running on Windows 2k3.
This has gone well off topic lol!!
Anyway I liked the skit man, keep it up

QUOTE Know your migration options, windows as serverware sucks0rz
BTW, what do you need an oracle server for? Using something so resource heavy you can't use MySQL?
Windows sucks period!
and the oracle server has been put in because my college is teaching an Oracle degree of sum sort, its there to mess around with, plus they had a spare server doing nothing. basically the Oracle server is there to pratt about on while learning it, so it sum1 makes an error on it then this wont mess with the app & domain server. it more or less serves for 1 perpose... oracle. nothing else needs to be run on it really.
