From what I hear it's better than premiere. They use it at a local broadcasting school and it's complicated as hell.

Ok....here we go. I went to school for 2 years, and most of it was film, and video editing. This kid named Aaron Taylor (FAG) was all wrapped up with AVID and used it so much no one else in the class got a chance to really, because he was a little dork-ass and sucked up to the teacher to work on her little projects to benefit the school. I on the other hand used Premeire. We had to do 1 video assignment for our senior presentation, and mine absolutly blew his away. His was very dull, very long, very.....simple. Mine on the other hand, was original, I had a comercial on skateboards, we had to make a comercial selling a product; and the movie trailer for BorDumB. This dumbass spent over 50 hours on avid, I spent about 30 in all. 20 of which was dicking around with effects. Needless to say, yes avid is used for professional editing, but unless you plan on actually doing this stuff for a career, which I am and the avid part for me is going to suck, I would stick to premeire, less time, perfectly good for the type of shit we do......and this is a story all about how, my life got flipped turned upsided down, I'd like to take a minute just sit right there..........I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bell Air.

if you already know premiere, and are looking to expand your capabilties... look into getting After Effects. I would imagine you can accomplish anything in those 2 programs that you could in Avid, probally more. Look into filmstripping also. It allows you to add a photoshop touch to your video.

btw...they have really simple versions of Avid for $150..
