New Laptop

Well ive just got a firewire cable(1334 I think) and well I noticed the size of the file when you capture is enormus!! so I cant be arsed compressing them as it takes ages! so with my savings I am going to get a laptop and use only for editing.

Just wondering does anyone no of a good laptop dealer or could recomend me 1 on say amazon/ebay?? I wud like it 2 have say 60gb hd, and a good ram and able to cope with many progs like pinaccle studio etc, so can anyone recomend me 1 or help me find a good laptop to suit editing needs, also I wud like it 2 be cheap, say under £600 thanks

you're gonna struggle to get a decent laptop with a 60gb and atleast 512 megs of ram with a decent processor for under £600 mate. you might be able to get a decent buy if you increase your budget by a few £100.

For laptops I'd advise against purchasing online, as the computer may arrive broken, and the seller won't be obliged to fix it.

I got an Airis 2.66 ghz pentium 4, 256 RAM, 40 gb hdd for 628 quid, and electronics are cheaper in the UK than over here. Just go to your local PC shop and get a dell, airis, compaq, sony etc laptop, ask the store for pricing, should find something pretty good with the money

well if you are plannin on using it to edit videos, graphics etc I.e use it for a wide variety of multimedia applications, you realistically need atleast 512mb of ram, atleast 60gb hard disc, (a got 80 and its half full since xmas). You want a decent processor, either an amd athlon 3000+ or a pentium 4/m with around 3ghz processing speed. if you get shit like that then you're good to go. But with your budget you are looking more at a 256mb of ram, 40gb hd and around 2ish ghz processor.

Get a 2 ghz processor, P4 is ok, but have low battery life (2.45 hrs after a full charge) but centrino's are more expensive, and they have about 6 hours battery life. If you can, get an AMD mobile, 2000+ at least should do, otherwise a pentium 4 is fine. 512 megabytes of RAM will do the job, then either a 40 GB or 60 GB HDD should do fine really.

Laptops usually come with all the firewire ports built in memory card slots etc,

yeah the battery life on mine sucks, have got a 1.6ghz intel m thing.

Toshiba's are pretty good and Sony's but they are both expensive...!

And now I think about it, I have quite alot of gb of hd on my pc, 186gb in (C Drive) I just dont want to flood my comp with lots of GB, I have 130gb left, when will this affect my pc I just really want it to be a healthy pc! if I use half will it then affect it? you may think y I want a laptop now but I thought it wud be easier, my pc is a quality pc, I just dnt want it to go slow I used all my money on this pc.

anyway here are my pc specs:

dont need 2 tell u much more say graphics card sound etc, but you may think why do I need a laptop?? but will it be ok if I put the files in the D: drive? will it slow down my pc is say I use about 40gb??? I just want it perfect quality, will this slow down my pc effect it in anyway??

No it shouldn't slow down your pc in any way, providing you don't get any corrupted shit on your pc. using up hard disc space doesn't slow down your pc, its the amount of ram you have, processor speed, bus width etc. you have a really good spec, 1gb of ram is excellant, that's what I have. And if your pc did slow down you could just had another 512 slot onto your motherboard. I used to have 1 GB of RAM, but it blew up during a power storm, then the HDD failed, so I used my other PC with 512, fucked up the HDD on that, got lazy and plugged in my laptop to my screen, keyboard and mouse

I remember my dell died out. But they came and fixed it free of charge. I was like that's right bitch.

For unbeatable performance, its actually cheaper to build your own, I use a wholesalers near me to get parts, havn't replaced the drives because I am getting lazy as I get older

Besides the quality of pre-made bullshit with big names stamped on the cases tends to vary, can be like playing russian roulettes

if you ask me dell is just a fuckin bump.

I also have have ADVENT desktop and I've had no fuckin problems with it for 2 years. I used to have a packard bell and that just had problem after problem, mainly coz it used a suck ass celeron processor and windows 98 lol.
