Dont work with the intention to actually make a DVD. Make sure you and your friends are a special kind of group and most important of all, just have fun, enjoy what your doing (if your not enjoying it.. quit). Film shit for fun, if it seems to be awesome footage and others start telling you, your shit is great/ or that u should make a DVD, then go for it..

man dont quit. I came on cky fourms without a group, just me and a freind made a video, posted it and the next day im filming with boredom induced. just keep at it.
