I want to take some old footage we have on VHS and upload it to my computer so that I can make video clips out of them. What kind of equipment do I have to get? Or could someone do it for me?

get dazzle by pinnacle it's the only one I know of

If you mean hardware related, its gonna be quite hard...
You need some sorta capture card, which has audio and sound input from a VHS recorder (make sure its input not output) then connect the VHS to your capture card, which most probably will be a PCI card on your mainboard, a decent card should come with some good software to record shit from the input cable.
Go to your local PC store and ask them...

I already said dazzle man its a little tower with the hook ups I bought one for high 8 but it dose it for vhs stuff to

it comes with the tower you plug into your computer not many wires, then you plug your vcr into it like you would to a tv or your high 8 camera into it, it shouldn't be any better it should me about the same quality

it was 300 bucks for me cause it came with some demo pinnacle 8 but now I think it's like 100 dollars maybe more maybe less

thats a link to dazzle DVC 80 if your in the UK... Thats what I use for footage that isn't filmed on the digital camera... Id say it work pretty well, our video qaulity only come out bad coz my pc is so slow and drop quite a few frames. The one I bought came with pinnacle studios 8 quickstart I think... so for £49.99 its not a bad price.... hope that helps

Buy yourself the Pinnacle PCTV USB 2 capture card (if you have usb 2).
Connect audio video leads form tv/vcr/dvd to pinnacle box which plugs into usb port. Simple.

I use a K-World TV capture card, it will capture form Any Camera with have out, it also has an in port for anthing that uses cable cords, IE: VCR, DVD, Video Games, ect, it ran me $50 USD, if u want to check that out

my camera has a dv in plug, so I just plug the vcr into my camera and upload like I usually do

get a hauppage wintv tuner card , pci, at a store near you, they cost what 50$ bucks, you can get em at www.compusa.com, or wherever electronics are sold,
I have one , you just install the pci card in the computer, then get the thing working, then plug yellow red and white (rca cables) into the computer and other end to vcr, then press record on computer and play on vcr and there you go, then goto a simple editor such as windows mvie maker , cut the blue at the first second or two off, and save.

forget dazzle..waste of time and waste of money. It has a hard time the audio and video in sync when being captured.
you need a dv cam with have input, not "dv" input. Usually the more mid-range priced cameras have this feature.
You should be able to get a camera with this feature at www.costco.com, if you purchase your camera from costco you can take advantage of their full moneyback return policy. You can return your camera and get every dollar back even if the camera is broken in to pieces. Keep your receipt and box and you'll be set. The return policy is lifetime.
If you cannot afford another camera, consider borrowing or renting one.
Once you get the camera, you might need to configure the have input so that it will work correctly. You should be able to do this in the menu if neccessary.
Use the supplied have cables (yellow, white and red). Hook one end into output section of your vcr, and hook the other end into the input section of your camercorder.
You can either record your content from vhs to mini-dv, and then later upload it from mini-dv to your computer....or you can upload straight from vhs to your computer through the mini dv cam.
