New Cam

xmas has cum a few days early for me I just got a new came JVC gz_mg275 40 gig hard drive and that kind of stuff does any one here have one or used one becouse if u have I would love to know what u thought of it.

should have went mini-dv.

and definitely not jvc.


hard drive cams are really complicated to edit with, and jvc's just suck.

I like panasonic over sony when it comes to low-end models. If only they had infrared capabilities

Don't stress dude, you don't even know the difference between right and wrong till you film for awhile. Any cam is a straight cam to start out with.

yeh for sure man as long as it films and so I can get sum new shit up its been ages since I have done any filming but still it must be a ok cam for over $1000

The price of any camera is directly proportional to the technology utilized in said camera. Therefore, a hard drive camera will cost more than a mini DV cam because the technology is newer and more advanced--but that doesn't mean it's better (other specs like number and size CCD(s) also play a big role).

With a hard-drive, you have advantages such as higher cam-to-computer transfer speeds, longer filming time etc, but you're disadvantaged when it comes to over-all quality (due to compression ratios) and ease of editing. I also believe long-term storage is more reliable with mini DV, because you have the option of tape and external hard drive--as opposed to being limited.

But listen, as long as you can film, edit and watch the footage then there's nothing wrong with it. It's basically up to you to decided what's best. Just giving you some heads up. If you're not happy, you could always exchange it (assuming it's not too late). PM me if this is the case, and I can find you a good one available here in Aus.
