this is my 1st article for the site (www.retardz.co.uk) I have alot of articles to write on the subjects of us (RetardZ) as a group and the whole homegrown scene, basically I get to put my view out & bitch about things.

anyway I have the flu and cant sleep, its just gone midnight and I'm talking on msn with someone who is also in this homegrown stunt scene who I Admire alot and even tho we are very different people & perform different style of stunts, he reminds me alot of myself from his attitude & views towards the subjects we have touched on, so we was talking about homegrown at this moment in time (1/1/05) and I was thinking what Homegrown DVDs I'm looking forward to this year and after thinking for a few minutes it just hit me, HOMEGROWN IS DYING
so after thinking about the years iv desided to write basically what happened in each year in the homegrown world and my world in My Views in this article
1999 (and before)
all this time random people did stunts, video taped or not, didn't really matter was just something to do for fun and a rush. some good at stunts and some wasn't.
most people didn't want to go anywhere with it or would think it would go anywhere apart from home video shows with clips of people being stupid or things going wrong in bmx & skate videos then basic homegrown stunts start apearing in underground skate videos and dvds. little did anyone know something was going to be changed forever.

the world gets hit with Jackass debutting on MTV featuring underground stunt men made into one group & a few friends who was along for the ride
this show had the humor of pranks, silly stunts and from time to time the od stunt that which made you think fucking hell....but this happened rarely

jackass is a worldwide fooonooomanooom (my spelling of this word is better!) love it or hate it everyone knew about it, with good marketing and good personalties of
the show it went bigger then anyone would think BUT the show is hit with lawsuits of copycats fucking stunts up ending in people dying or being very badly injured.
most of them being young kids repeating stunts seen without knowing how to do stunts. people died for being total idiots & jackass was blamed.

2002
the show was pretty tame as far as stunts went, but now MTV wanted to tame it even more for season 4 as kids was copying and being hurt. the crew declined the contract for the next season(s) because the show would suck & with even more limitations it would be fun and would just be a bad idea. basically after alot of meetings for months it ended in a movie contract which would be a good way to go out with a bang. but while this was happening, groups started showing up on the Internet doing the stunts jackass did and maybe a few new ones, at this point meny groups wasn't as good as jackass & it was just fun for them anyway. at the end of this year when myself (evil-webby) had totally recovered from a stunt injury that had happen to me in 2000, all this time jackass was airing on TV, I was watching it from the sidelines and remembering how much fun it was to do stuff like that, also seeing new things being done and wanting to do them myself. ill get more into this later.

2003
at the very start of this year, I went to see steve-o when he was in London in his don't try this at home tour, I got to hang out with him for a while backstage after his show, when I walked up to him and shook his hand I pulled his shoulder towards mine as I leaned in as I a went to give him a small hug, he lost his blances like he didn't know what was happening, at that time I knew he was totally wasted and covered in dry blood and in that time I told him "im going to be make a stunt video soon" in which he replied "yeah" and rased his head up and looked me in the eyes and at that time I got the feeling he was thinking "do you really know what your doing" or "oh man, don't sue me" lol little did he know I was pretty good at doing stunts already I then handed back his warm beer that he asked me to hold while he signed my steve-o vol 1 cover. he then went to drink it and relised that I had drunk half of it. and left him alittle bit in the bottom and he said "hey you drunk my beer" in a annoyed tone of voice. I stated "you said on stage we can get drunk with you backstage" he then told me the bad news "ah yeah man, but they need everyone out the building by 11:30....sorry" after that my smile dropped and I knew my night with steve was about to end. so I had to say my good byes, I said awesome show anyway man and smiled & shook his hand again and turned around and walked towards the fire exit, when he shouted "Hey!" I looked round and he said "thanks for looking out for them girls, that was real cool of you!" and I said "huh..oh yeah..." and waved by and walked out, I geuss I should say what happened with the girls, well basically in his show I was in the 2nd row at, and infront of me was 2 girls around the age of 18-19,I had never talked to them before and when steve came out after around an hour of waiting & listening to a shitty band called the Kennedy soundtrack....as his music hit and he came out busting a beer can on his head...the whole fucking floor of the london apollo wanted to be at the front right up close. everyone at the front was getting crushed up against the metal gard rails & eachother, so me being a gentlemen, I put my arms on the rails both sides of the two girl and tense my arms and stretched out so they was protected, but it half way into the show had to let go due to the strain on my grip, and being so crushed I let go and no one was giving up they still all wanted to get to the front, me being a small guy I managed to get knocked and pushed back to around the 5/6 row, I never saw the 2 girls after that so I never got a thank you from them, but it was even better getting one by steve-o as he really cares about his fans and I was amazed he at he even noticed I was stopping 2 random girls from being crushed for half the show aswell as performing some great stunts, while ryan dunn just stood at the side of the stage and drunk from a green bottle lol. but yeah back to the world of homegrown this year had groups showing up from all over the world, meny still with the same copycat jackass stunt style. alot of groups got good and had molded into there own style but would soon lose intrest and die out forever. some with a homemade dvd and some without. but most was just wannabes & looked at jackass as cool and wanted to be cool themselves and have fun with it...as my injury was not holding me back anymore and I had met 2 people who had already was in a homegrown group, I desided to get a dv camera with my savings,I then got a group of friends/any one who was interested in filming with me, what we did for 6months was basic stuff but I wanted more, I knew me and few members had what it takes to do alot more. so we got a new real camera. and started planing to make a better group and a better video. also dropped alot of people from filming with us who didn't have what it takes, and also met 2 people who would make us the group we are now, without them retardz wouldn't be half the group it is.

2004
the homegrowns that was good in 2003 are get better by having a style to there own group. very different to the jackass style. I would even go as far as to say most groups was alot more interesting and entertaining then jackass. but was still at a stage they was still learning the art. this is also the year we filmed so much awesome stuff we knew we was one of the best groups going, it sounds big headed but iv been doing stunts from as far back as I can remember & when jackass hit I was watching it like a hawk...studying it if you will. when. I now know good footage when I see it, I see the difference between good & bad content, I also must have the biggest collection of Homegrown/Stunt DVDs and I still need to get aload more (when I get a job maybe)
this year as the year I knew retardz if ever got a real dvd deal we could outdo most of the stunt videos selling right now,

2005
has alot of groups on there last legs, they have run out of ideas & new things to film, repeating alot of stunts they did before. growning bored of the scene and I can see this year alot of groups dying, making way for the newish up and coming groups. very few big top groups at this moment in time. us on the other hand who are very creative and have so much more to film, so you wont be seeing us giving up that eazy. we will be around for years to come (I HOPE LOL)

if I could described what RetardZ is from viewing the collection of footage over the past year (2004) & not over reacting it would be
"Evil Actions" "Outrageous Behavior" "Brutal Stunts" "Dark In Substance" "Talented Artists" "Intense Bizarre Humor" "Absolutely Pure Random Enterment"
they are the reasons why we will one day get a dvd deal, thats what we're aiming for, and I believe one day we will get it!
