I Got A New External And I Need Help

I have never worked with externals before...can I save program files on the external and they still work?...I know I sound like a n00b but I am shite when it comes to computers...all I knoe is torrents and photoshop...

they're good for backing up stuff, but not good to run programs off of. In my opinion anyways.

is it possible tho...if so am I going to need to set them up a certain way? am I going to need to install them directly to the external and in a certain folder?

Yes it's possible, but I don't recommend it.

yeahyou can use it just like any other hard drive . but yeah it is not advisable to run programs from externals really. more used for storage

my new external cant render videos to it, it gives me a video file with just a black screen and no sound.
