I've just been searching on Trademe for cameras, and quite a few 4 mega pixel/ 3 mega pixel cameras (the ones that do like 6 different things) are on there, going relatively cheap.

Here's a sample of the cameras I mean

I was wondering, are these any good? CHEERS DOGGS. Image file not present in the recovered backup

I've heard nothing good about them, I think you can only record a few minutes of video at a time on them at a time, I could be wrong though.

Well, it misses optical zoom, which is a big minus. It records video only at 320x240, which is a quarter in resolution compared to miniDV (640x480).

The length of the movie could be limited, and a memory card is needed. The size of the memory card can be a limit for the length of the movie that can be recorded.

I'd buy a miniDV instead for serious filming. They are getting dead cheap here.

Ah, my friend has one of these, it looks awesome on screen, real smooth, but the screen is small anyways, it only captures on in MPEG format, I was only able to capture on once but thats what it came out as, not bad, but the quality sucked.

Seriously, don't get it, and if you wanna film at night or in low light, you've fucked it.

Edit: and yeah, it has no optical zoom, it just zooms in/out in stages.

Went out of my price range. (I just got fined for carrying passengers last week, so my budget is $250 now.) There's no way I can get a good camera for that cheap.
